Who can protect a student in a college against discrimination or rights infringement? Should a student deal with his/her problems on his/her own? Where can a student find assistance? What are the main aims of students unions? Why should students enter them? This article provides answers to all these questions.
The essence of students unions
A student union is basically the organization that stands for students rights and freedoms. This is a democratic organization run only by students and for students. Its main aims are as follows:
1.To provide assistance for students in need. This includes any kind of conflicts or tough financial situations. Each student who address a students union for help will not stay unnoticed.
2.College unions try their hard to eradicate any kind of discrimination among students. Students unions run campaigns against racial, sexual, social, religious and many other kinds of discrimination. Students unions claim equal rights and freedoms for every student.
3.However, students unions also make sure students stick to their commitments and discharge their duties.
4.Moreover, students unions unite students according to their interests helping to form social bonds between students body.
5.Another thing students unions promote is implementing of innovations in educational system. Students unions keep pace with time and try to bring only best to the students.
Cons of students unions
However, students unions may be not that advantageous for students:
1.First of all, influenced by unions, students may put their needs prior to their duties.
2.Student unions may work inefficiently and fail to help students.
3.Some student unions put emphasis on students entertainment than social development.
This way or another, students unions are a powerful tool for students development. They are the first organization to address for assistance and support.
