As far as scholarships go you will need to read the fine print. Some may allow you to use it at a University outside of the US, others may not.

You are be able to use US Loans or Federal Loans at a few school that are not in the US or a US territory. You can search the list of schools that have codes for the FAFSA here, choose foreign country when it asks for the state: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/FSLookupServlet

I do not believe De La Salle University is on the list. You can also check with your local bank to see if they offer private student loans for Universities out of the US.

What do you think? Answer below!

I would first apply to a college in the USA that would allow you to attend the college in the Phillipines as a semester abroad. (Then just extend it to attend there 2 years or so). At least at the college I attended, you were allowed to do up to 2 years at the out of country school and still graduate with the USA given degree. Throughout those two years, you will be using the US college grants and loans since you will be going through a local school.

    For example:
Get accepted to Penn State (I dont know if they allow you to go to the Phillipines as a semester abroad, but I am just throwing a college name out there). State to the financial aid office that you want to go a semester abroad to the Phillipines and to help figure out how to cover the cost. They will give you the estimated costs so that you can apply for loans and grants accordingly. Usually you will have to attend at least a semester in the USA before going abroad, but that would be good that way you have time at the college to set up all the financial aid business. Call colleges around you to see who would offer studying abroad in that country. You could do 1 semester in the US, followed by 2 years over there, then come back over and do the last 1 1/2 years in the USA. (As long as the Phillipines has 2 years worth of courses that would transfer back) Warning though, its not cheap to go abroad.

You may want to do all 4 years there in the Phillipines but I actually suggest against it. I know a friend who did 5 years in Egypt and got a masters degree, but when she came back to the USA to get a job, they demoted her masters degree to only a couple credits beyond an associates degree…so now she is going back to a college in the US to get her degree (again). Sad, but true.
